The prefect of Lot-et-Garonne has ordered the administrative closure of a supermarket accused of selling alcoholic beverages to the perpetrators of a murder.

Prefect Bruno André has ordered the administrative closure of the Spar supermarket located on Place du Pin in Agen. This decision, made on 12 June, applies for a period of fifteen days from 15 June.
The measure comes following a crime committed last May. A man in a situation of marginalisation was killed during a knife fight. The two individuals involved in this altercation had previously purchased and consumed alcoholic beverages from this same store.
A few days before the order was signed, the State representative in the department had already announced his intention to act firmly against this type of practice. In an interview with the local press, he had stated that any shopkeeper distributing alcohol to persons already in a state of intoxication would face closure, or even permanent closure. He had specified that a police report had been drawn up concerning this establishment in the Pin district.
The supermarket owner was summoned to present his arguments. On the basis of the information gathered, the prefectural authority decided on a fifteen-day closure. This sanction is part of an approach aimed at combating the sale of alcohol to vulnerable persons.
