The jurors of the Rhône court of assizes pronounced sentence on Friday of fifteen years imprisonment against a defendant aged 39. This former physical protection officer was being prosecuted for sexually abusing his partner, a 40-year-old woman in business, by plunging her into a state of unconsciousness using chemical products.
The sentence exceeds by three years the prosecution's demands, which had sought twelve years in detention, supplemented by ten years of post-release supervision and a suspension of civil rights. The magistrates characterised the accused's behaviour as "Machiavellian", designating him as a "sexual predator".
The offences took place over a period spanning 2015 until the arrest of the defendant in 2023. Filmed sequences, broadcast during the hearings, document the touching and penetrations committed on the woman, then plunged into complete torpor, whilst the perpetrator uttered degrading remarks. The counsel for the complainant denounced the dehumanisation of her client, reduced to the status of "object" or "toy" without free will.
The investigations revealed digital dialogues between the convicted man and Dominique Pelicot. During these exchanges, Pelicot adopts the posture of an experienced mentor, almost a spiritual guide, towards this novice of forced sleep practices. The guilty party allegedly assured him he was following his directives scrupulously, even proposing that Pelicot travel to Lyon to take part in the abuse.
Me Gabriel Versini-Bullara, counsel for the defendant, had pleaded for leniency by arguing that every individual deserves an opportunity for redemption and by calling for a conviction lower than the prosecution's demands.
