According to Google News FR — Crime (fr), two Ukrainian nationals have been placed in police custody for murder following a brawl that occurred on Friday on the edge of a pond in the municipality of Mittersheim, Moselle. The prosecutor for Metz, David Touvet, confirmed the information on Monday 24 August.
One of the suspects, aged 24, alerted emergency services during the night of Friday to Saturday. He stated that his father-in-law, 43, had received three stab wounds to the abdomen during an altercation with a 44-year-old man, identified as "Russian" and residing in Germany. According to his account, the two families were fishing at the edge of the pond with his two minor brothers when the fight broke out. The alleged attacker then fled on foot.
The father-in-law, whose vital prognosis was initially at risk, quickly saw his condition improve. An initial investigation for attempted murder had been opened. The vehicle and belongings of the wanted man were found at the scene.
On Sunday afternoon, the body of this man was discovered lifeless in the pond. The investigation was then widened to include facts of murder whilst under the influence of alcohol, and the two Ukrainians were placed in police custody. The public prosecutor's office indicated that this custody was extended by 24 hours on Monday for the purposes of investigations. An autopsy of the body is to be carried out on Tuesday 25 August.
