The appeal hearing in the Libyan funds case continued on 27 May with the presentation of Nicolas Sarkozy's defence arguments. The former head of state, who contests the allegations against him, claimed to have been the victim of a setup aimed at discrediting him. His counsel presented their arguments during a hearing lasting several hours, rejecting the evidence against him as fiction.
The judge presiding over the hearing, Olivier Géron, indicated that the judgment would be delivered at the end of November. This proceeding concerns allegations of covert financial contributions from Muammar Gaddafi's Libya to finance the successful 2007 electoral campaign.
