Grau-du-Roi: 15-year-old adolescent admits killing 86-year-old retired woman with "great savagery"
An 86-year-old woman was found dead on 11 June 2026 at the edge of a pond in Grau-du-Roi (Gard), near a campsite where she had spent her holidays for many years. An investigation into homicide was opened following this grim discovery in the seaside resort neighbouring Grande-Motte.
The forensic medical analysis carried out on the deceased woman's body confirmed the theory of a criminal act. According to the conclusions of the Nîmes prosecutor, Cécile Gensac, death occurred as a result of blows struck with at least one object used as a weapon. Experts also noted significant trauma on the body, revealing the exceptional ferocity of the attack suffered by the victim. The reasons for such violence remain to be established by investigators.
On Tuesday 16 June, gendarmes arrested a boy aged 15, a secondary school pupil living in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene. Having never previously had contact with police or the justice system, the individual admitted his guilt during his period in custody, as specified by the magistrate in a statement made public on Wednesday 17 June.
