The lifeless body of Jacqueline, an 86-year-old woman, was found on 11 June near a holiday facility in Grau-du-Roi, in the Gard. Medical examiners from Nîmes revealed that the death resulted from deep and multiple wounds, reflecting an attack of rare violence. The victim also had a cut throat.
On the following Tuesday, 16 June, a fifteen-year-old adolescent was apprehended. From the day of his arrest, he admitted to the offence. He stated that he had struck the pensioner using an electric-powered DIY tool. Experts observed that the injuries were not uniform, suggesting the use of at least two distinct instruments.
Investigators identified the suspect through surveillance cameras in the area. These cameras captured a young person travelling on a motorised two-wheeler near the location where the crime took place. Grau-du-Roi is a small seaside resort with a population of fewer than ten thousand.
The minor was taken to Nîmes police headquarters for questioning. Investigations are continuing in order to understand the reasons that led to such an atrocious act.
