The public prosecutor at the judicial tribunal in Valence has requested that eleven individuals among the fourteen charged be tried by a juvenile assize court for homicide and attempted murder. The aggravating factor of having acted within a criminal association was not retained against them. This judicial request comes thirty months after the death of young Thomas Perotto, which occurred on 19 November 2023 in Crépol, in the Drôme department.
In a reversal from its initial conclusions, the prosecution now considers that the accused had not coordinated in advance to commit acts of violence during this dance evening. The three remaining suspects will be prosecuted for voluntary assault and battery.
The tragedy erupted at the end of a reception organised in this rural locality. Teenagers and young adults residing in the Monnaie district in Romans-sur-Isère had clashed with rugby players following the event. The conflict turned violent when some assailants seized blades. Several athletes were seriously injured. Thomas Perotto, aged sixteen and captain of his team within the Romans-Péage club, did not survive.
This investigation, of exceptional scale, continues to struggle to determine precisely the role of each person involved in these chaotic events.
