Inside a residence in the Longos settlement of Aigialea, a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son were discovered brutally murdered. The incident has caused shock in the local community, whilst investigations by the prosecuting authorities continue at an intensive pace.
The 65-year-old partner of the unfortunate woman, an Italian national, has been brought in as the primary suspect for the act. He maintains that he is not responsible for the deaths. Nevertheless, the police officers handling the case believe they have gathered strong evidence against him.
In statements to television, police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidu said that the detention of the foreigner was deemed necessary as illegal weapons were found within the residence. "There are elements that make him a suspect," she emphasised, adding that the man has shown several contradictions in his statements.
Particular attention has been drawn to a piece of clothing found at the scene bearing a stain, which is being examined to determine if it is biological material. The suspect has not provided a convincing explanation for the specific item. Additionally, abrasions were found on his body that he cannot account for, resulting in him undergoing a forensic examination.
From the findings at the scene of the incident, officers conclude that the perpetrator attacked the young man first. The 26-year-old bears a gunshot wound to the head, whilst he has sustained multiple blows from a sharp object. Subsequently, the attack turned against his mother, who — according to her injuries — resisted strongly before dying.
The bodies were discovered with a delay of approximately six hours from the commission of the act. The authorities believe that the suspect had been drinking alcohol and attempted to destroy his traces. The family had never previously involved police services in incidents of violence.
