Under scrutiny by authorities is the six-hour timeframe that elapsed from the death of a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son in Longos, Aigialeia, until the moment police were notified.

The 65-year-old partner of the woman, an Italian national, remains the primary suspect. He claims that he was sleeping during the incident and noticed nothing. However, police officers who investigated the scene found no signs of forced entry that would support his account.

According to the coroner, the two victims took their last breath in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Their bodies were found at midday on the same day. During this interval, the Italian man informed a friend of his rather than the authorities, a fact that is troubling investigators.

The findings at the scene are particularly significant. The young man was found with a gunshot wound to the head and multiple injuries from a sharp object. His mother bore multiple wounds, most of them defensive, which leads investigators to conclude that she attempted to protect her child.

Authorities believe that the perpetrator shot the 26-year-old whilst he was sleeping, in order to avoid any resistance, and subsequently fatally wounded him with a knife. The mother is said to have intervened in an attempt to save her son, resulting in her being fatally wounded as well.

In the courtyard of the house, an air rifle and a knife were found buried in a plant pot, which are believed to be the weapons used in the crime. The 65-year-old bears abrasions on his body, which likely resulted from a struggle with his partner.

Neighbours and relatives describe the suspect as a quiet man who loved both his partner and her son, whom he had raised from a young age. Despite his objections, he was taken to hospital on the evening of Tuesday due to severe malaise.
