On Sunday morning, a corpse was discovered in a field in Vatolakkos, buried at a depth of approximately one metre. The body is that of a 45-year-old woman, whom the authorities had been searching for. Her identification was made possible by a confession given overnight by a 43-year-old man from North Macedonia.
The evidence gathered so far points to conclusions about a violent death. According to reports from Newsbeast, the victim bore restraints on both upper and lower limbs, and had suffered a severe cranial injury from a metallic object. The corpse was wrapped in large rubbish bags.
At a distance from the burial site, insulating tape was found. Officers handling the case are investigating whether it was used to gag the victim and prevent screams.
Beyond the theory of a quarrel cited by the arrested man, which is connected to damage to a residence, the prosecuting authorities are examining other possible motives, including a sexual dimension.
An autopsy is expected to shed light on the cause of death. Official announcements from the authorities are scheduled for Monday.
