The 26-year-old man who lost his life together with his mother in Longos, Aigion, had recently left Germany, where he was studying and working, to be in Greece. According to information cited by ertnews.gr, his 54-year-old mother called him to the country just two days before the double homicide, possibly to discuss a financial matter that had arisen with her 65-year-old Italian partner.
Police handling the case are seriously examining the possibility that financial disagreements may have been the trigger for the bloody incident. According to testimony from the victims' circle, the unfortunate woman had serious differences with her Italian partner regarding monetary matters. She reportedly informed her son of the situation and asked him to return.
The sequence of events that led to the killings remains unclear. Authorities believe the 26-year-old was attacked first whilst asleep, shot at close range in the temple with an air rifle. He subsequently suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest. His mother, who heard the gunshot and rushed to the room, was found dead with more than twenty wounds from a large knife.
The 65-year-old Italian, who is considered the only suspect, maintains his denial. He claims he was sleeping in the lounge and noticed nothing. Police, however, found evidence suggesting a struggle, such as broken furniture and the condition of the room. Additionally, freshly washed clothes belonging to him were found hung out in the yard, which is being examined as an attempt to conceal evidence.
The defence of the accused argues that the case file is incomplete and that DNA results and gunpowder residue findings are missing. His statement has been scheduled for Friday at the courts in Aigion.
