The 49-year-old community leader of Apesokario was murdered in March. One of the accused had a previous conviction for the 2015 student case.

Last March, 49-year-old Alexandros Daskalakis, president of the Apesokario community, suffered a fatal head attack near his field in Heraklion, Crete. After twenty-one days in hospital, he died. Two people were arrested for the act, among them a 32-year-old man with a criminal record.
According to NewsIT, the young suspect had already been convicted for the death of Vangelis Giacoumakis, the student who lost his life in 2015 following maltreatment by his fellow students. At that time, the court imposed a three-year suspended sentence for bodily harm, without serving any time. Classmates of the victim had testified that the same man locked Giacoumakis in storage spaces, beat him and humiliated him.
The victim in the new case had gone out on the morning of 1 March to transport a worker on his motorcycle. He then stopped at a shop to get some coffees. As he was heading back to the estate, someone struck him on the head. The unfortunate man managed to return to his home, where he lost consciousness. Initially his relatives thought he had fallen down the stairs. Doctors found serious head injuries.
The police investigation is continuing, whilst the victim's family is seeking answers.
