Police in Phthiotis arrested four people for fraud involving an alleged tax official. The perpetrators obtained €37,071 and jewellery from a woman before being located in Pieria. The money and jewellery were returned to the legitimate owner.

Four people are now in the hands of the prosecution authorities in Phthiotis, accused of an elaborate fraud scheme that yielded them a substantial sum of money. According to information from Kathimerini, the criminal group used the method of a fake tax official to defraud an elderly woman.
The scheme was executed when one of the gang members contacted a woman by telephone and, presenting himself as a tax authority employee, persuaded her to hand over a large sum of money along with valuables. The victim placed the cash and jewellery at a predetermined location near her home.
When the victim realised she had been defrauded, she immediately notified the authorities. Police from the Domokos Division were mobilised immediately and, utilising information about the vehicle used by the fraudsters, informed the operations centre.
The investigation led to the conclusion that the perpetrators were heading towards Thessaloniki. That evening, their vehicle was spotted on the Athens–Thessaloniki national road in the Pieria region. Police officers who had been placed on alert stopped the car and proceeded to arrest the four occupants.
In the possession of those arrested, €37,071.60 and valuable items were found, which were returned to the legitimate owner. The vehicle they used was seized.
The four defendants are expected to be brought before the District Prosecutor's Office in Lamia. The Domokos Police Division is conducting a preliminary investigation and is investigating the possibility that the group had committed other similar criminal acts.
