A 41-year-old man was brought before the Kalamata District Prosecutor, who confessed that he killed his 39-year-old partner inside their home on Vassilissas Olgas Street. The couple had two daughters, aged 6 and 10, who were in the flat at the time of the killing.
When police entered the premises, the two children were in their beds and had not been aware of anything that had occurred. This fact raises questions, since their mother was calling for help, neighbours were knocking on the door and there was commotion. The girls were taken to the city hospital nearly drowsy and woke up after ten o'clock in the morning the next day.
The authorities are examining the possibility that the perpetrator had given the children some substance to make them sleep deeply. Otherwise, it is difficult to explain how they did not wake from the noise. Testimony indicates that the girls went to bed early and slept until late.
At the same time, it has emerged that the woman had suffered beatings and had been subjected to physical and verbal violence by her husband in recent times, in front of their children's eyes.
The two minors remain under medical supervision and protective custody. A psychologist is examining their psychological condition and will recommend whether laboratory tests need to be carried out.
The medical examiner established multiple injuries on the victim, including deep wounds to the chest, head and neck, as well as marks indicating that she attempted to defend herself.
