A violent collision between drivers occurred on Tuesday afternoon on a narrow street at the border of the municipalities of Ilion and Kamatero, resulting in a woman being injured in the face whilst inside her vehicle with her minor child.
According to video footage released by a television station, two vehicles met at a narrow point on a two-way street. Neither of the two drivers reversed, resulting in a confrontation.
The man exited his vehicle and approached the woman's car. According to the report, he then struck the victim in the face, causing her injury to the eye. At the time of the incident, the woman's minor child was in the back seat of the vehicle, and witnessed the incident.
Passersby who observed the incident reacted and confronted the perpetrator, who returned to his vehicle, reversed and left the scene. Reports indicate that the man claimed he could not move backwards, citing a recent surgical procedure.
The woman sustained injury to her eye and is in a state of shock. Her child is also reported to be traumatised by the incident.
The prosecuting authorities have begun investigations to locate the perpetrator as part of summary legal proceedings. Meanwhile, neighbours who witnessed the incident recorded details of the vehicle and handed them over to the authorities.
The case has provoked strong indignation, as it highlights once again the dangerous phenomenon of road rage, where a simple traffic dispute can escalate into a serious assault.
