A 65-year-old man with Italian nationality has been arrested in Aigion, having been brought in for questioning over the death of two people in a residential property in the area. The victims were his partner and her son.

Police authorities detected traces of cleaning material on the man's body and on his underwear. These findings were assessed as having appeared immediately after the crime. The arrested man denies any involvement and offers a different account of the origin of the evidence.

During questioning, the Italian stated that he suffered from gastroenteritis, which forced him to wash his underwear and take a bath. According to what he said, he hung his clothes on the fence to dry.

The account he presented was that the previous evening he decided to sleep on the living room sofa, as his partner snored heavily and prevented him from resting. The next morning, at around 11:00, he woke up with stomach discomfort, used the toilet, and then took a bath to clean himself.

When he later searched for his partner, he found her dead in their bedroom, whilst her son was also found murdered at a nearby location. Instead of contacting the police directly, he called an acquaintance, who arrived at the scene and notified the authorities.

Police officers were not persuaded by his account. His movements after the incident were deemed suspicious, with the result that his being brought in led to his arrest.
