Chania: 45-year-old tenant admits to killing his landlady
A 43-year-old woman, Stavrοula Leventaki, was found buried in a field near the house she was renting out in Chania. The 45-year-old tenant, originally from North Macedonia, admitted to police that he committed the crime during a new statement he gave.
According to what he told the authorities, he first struck the woman on the head with a glass bottle and then stabbed her. Immediately after, he attempted to cover his tracks. He wrapped the body with insulating tape and elastic bands, reduced it in size so it would fit in a rubbish bag, loaded it into his vehicle and buried it at a distance of five kilometres from the residence.
Police had kept him under surveillance from the beginning of the investigation. A significant piece of evidence was the traces of blood found on the handle of a mop, which he used to clean the crime scene. The victim was the owner of the property where the suspect lived.
The motives that led to the murder are still being investigated. The prosecution authorities do not rule out personal differences between victim and perpetrator.
