Crete: Students involved in cannabis trafficking case via courier
A minor from a settlement in Messara was arrested after collecting a package containing quantities of cannabis from an automated parcel locker of a courier company, using a code he had received.
According to information released by authorities, the young man had received instructions from a fellow resident aged 19, who is believed to be the actual recipient. The parcel had been sent by a 28-year-old person living in the wider Piraeus area.
Upon inspection of the contents, 175 grammes of raw cannabis, 100 grammes in chocolate form, and a small quantity of an unknown substance were found.
The prosecution authorities had previously placed the package in a locker in Moira and were discreetly monitoring the location. When the minor arrived and collected it, he was apprehended. Along with him, the 19-year-old believed to be involved in the collection was also arrested. Additionally, the child's mother was arrested on a charge of negligent supervision.
The 28-year-old sender is still being sought, and the preliminary investigation is ongoing.
It is worth noting that the use of courier parcel lockers for the distribution of substances is showing an upward trend among young people. A similar case recently engaged the attention of services in Ierapetra.
