Moschato: Two young men arrested with stolen motorcycle – Chase and evasion preceded capture
Late on Sunday evening in Moschato, police officers from the D.I.AS. unit stopped two individuals riding a motorcycle for inspection. The driver, however, did not comply with their instructions and attempted to escape, resulting in a pursuit of approximately half a kilometre through the surrounding streets.
The two young men eventually abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to flee on foot, but the police officers caught up with them and arrested them. They are an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old minor.
From the subsequent inspection, it emerged that the vehicle had been stolen earlier that evening from the wider Kallitheа area. The authorities filed charges against them for theft as well as for disobeying the authorities.
The incident highlights once again the phenomenon of motorcycle theft in the wider Athens basin area, whilst the involvement of a minor perpetrator raises additional concerns. The two arrested individuals were brought before a prosecutor.
