Eight people were arrested following a widespread operation by prosecuting authorities across various locations in Attica. Those arrested are accused of participation in a gang that was engaged in the illegal distribution of psychotropic substances and firearms.

The operation was organised by officers from the Athens Crime Prosecution Directorate, with assistance from special forces of the Hellenic Police. According to information from public television, among those brought in is the person believed to be the head of the criminal structure.

Of the eight arrested, seven are of Albanian origin and one is Greek. During subsequent searches, authorities found quantities of drugs as well as ammunition.

According to information available so far, members of the gang are believed to have developed an extensive distribution network in the Attica region at least since last December. Particularly concerning is the fact that the alleged perpetrators used minors to distribute the substances, whilst also selling drugs near school complexes and recreational areas.

Police investigations are continuing and further announcements are expected.
