A bloody incident with one fatality occurred on Chios in the early hours of Thursday, when a relative of the victim attacked him with a sharp object.
The 51-year-old perpetrator, according to information released by the police, fatally wounded his 31-year-old nephew in the area of the fish market. For the incident, which took place between Wednesday evening and Thursday early morning, a blade measuring 16.5 centimetres was used.
The victim was transported with serious injuries to the island's hospital, where doctors attempted to save him surgically. The efforts were unsuccessful and the 31-year-old died.
Authorities proceeded to arrest the 51-year-old killer the following day. A case was filed against him for premeditated manslaughter, and he also faces charges for violation of weapons law, as the knife used in the attack was located and seized by police officers.
