Police and fire service authorities have carried out arrests and imposed monetary penalties for fires in northern Greece.

During the first week of July 2026, fire safety services proceeded with one arrest and the imposition of monetary penalties in multiple areas of the country due to violations related to ignition of forest land.

On 5 July, firefighting service personnel from Katerini apprehended a Greek national in the municipality of Eastern Olympus in Pieria. The man in question is accused of igniting vegetation and was ordered to pay a fine of €2,406.25.

On the same day, in Lagkada, Thessaloniki, another Greek national was penalised with a fine of €2,187.50 for a similar offence.

A day later, on 6 July, new penalties were imposed in Pella and Preveza. Specifically, in the municipality of Skydra in Pella, a foreigner was ordered to pay a fine of €875 for throwing burning materials into a forest zone. Also, in the municipality of Zirou in Preveza, a Greek national paid €1,757.81 for a fire that he caused.
