Rhodes: Driver arrested again for breach of conditions following fatal crash

A 44-year-old driver from Rhodes has been arrested again by police. He had been released on restrictive conditions following a traffic accident that resulted in the deaths of two women.

The accident occurred on 17 May on the national road connecting Rhodes to Lindos. In the collision, a 56-year-old woman and her 26-year-old daughter lost their lives. The BMW driver was released on 20 May under six conditions imposed by the investigating magistrate.

Among the conditions imposed was the requirement to appear at the police station in his area, the payment of a cash bail of €50,000, the withdrawal of his driving licence, and a prohibition on any involvement with motor vehicles.

Yesterday afternoon, following a relevant report, police officers found the man at his business engaging with vehicles. This action constituted a clear breach of the sixth restrictive condition.

The arrested driver was brought before the Misdemeanours Prosecutor's Office in Rhodes today, where he was scheduled for trial on 25 September 2026. In parallel, a second court hearing is pending on 3 July, relating to allegations concerning an attempted approach to the vehicle that caused the collision.

The investigation into the causes of the initial accident is continuing, with the expert examination not yet completed.
