A 36-year-old woman was taken into custody at Rethymno Police Station following a report of violent assault against her minor daughter.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon inside the family home in Agia Galeni. Following an intense argument between the mother and the child, the 36-year-old allegedly struck the teenager in the face, causing injuries to her eyes.
Local residents who heard the altercation alerted the authorities. Police officers who arrived at the scene apprehended the woman and brought her in.
The minor was transferred by ambulance to Rethymno Hospital, where she was admitted to the paediatric ward. The attending doctors are monitoring the development of her condition. The motives behind the incident are being investigated by the authorities.
