An 18-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Sunday in Thessaloniki after driving a stolen motorcycle and crashing into a car whilst attempting to evade a police check.

Google News GR — Crime (el) reports that in the early hours of Sunday an 18-year-old was arrested in the centre of Thessaloniki following a dramatic pursuit.

According to the Hellenic Police, the young man was driving a stolen motorcycle at the junction of Svolou and Ethnikis Amynis streets when he noticed an impending police check and attempted to flee by accelerating to high speed. His flight came to an abrupt halt when he collided with a private car.

Following the collision he abandoned the two-wheeled vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, without success. He faces charges of theft, disobedience, dangerous driving and breach of residence restrictions.

From the subsequent investigation it emerged that the 18-year-old had escaped from an institution where he was being held for theft offences.
