Police officer in Liepāja arrested for drink-driving — 2.05 per mille
A State Police officer has been detained in Liepāja after driving a car outside working hours with a blood alcohol content of 2.05 per mille. A criminal case has been initiated and the matter has been referred to the Internal Security Bureau.

According to Apollo, on 3 September at approximately 19.30, State Police received a signal from a vehicle's eCall system regarding a possible traffic accident in Liepāja on Zirņu Street at the intersection with Jaunā Street. Upon arriving at the scene, officials found a Škoda car — a third party's property had not been damaged.
A man was standing next to the car who initially refused to cooperate with law enforcement. During inspection, his breath test showed 2.05 per mille of alcohol. It transpired that the detained person was an employee of a structural unit of the State Police General Order Police Department, who carries out service duties in Liepāja and Dienvidkurzeme municipality. The Škoda was his private vehicle, and during the journey he was off duty.
The man was taken to a temporary detention facility. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the operation of a vehicle under the influence of alcohol; criminal case materials will be submitted as appropriate to the Internal Security Bureau. Urgent investigative measures were immediately carried out at the scene to secure evidence.
Given the violations recently identified in the relevant structural unit, a service inspection has been initiated. A decision has also been made to reassign the unit's head to a lower position.
State Police leadership has emphasised that there is no place in the service for law-breakers and such conduct will not be tolerated. Residents are urged to report suspected official misconduct to the State Police Internal Control Bureau, the Internal Security Bureau, or directly to police leadership — anonymity is guaranteed.
