In Cēsis, an Audi driver fled police while under the influence of alcohol, reaching 132 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. A substance similar to marijuana was found in the vehicle.

Officials from the South Vidzeme district of the State Police Vidzeme Regional Office received information on 20 August that an Audi driver in Cēsis was possibly under the influence of alcohol and operating a vehicle, reports TVNET.
Law enforcement spotted the car at a shopping centre and activated the service vehicle's light and sound signals, instructing the driver to stop. The Audi driver ignored the police instructions and began to flee.
During the flight, the driver violated a series of traffic regulations, endangering both his own safety and that of other road users. In an area where the permitted driving speed is 50 km/h, he reached 132 km/h. Additionally, he crossed an intersection against a red traffic light signal and ignored the requirements of road sign No. 207 "Stopping and driving further prohibited".
The flight ended in the yard of a house beside a pond, where law enforcement discovered the vehicle abandoned without its driver. The driver and passenger had attempted to flee on foot, but officers managed to stop and detain both. One of the men was in a noticeable state of alcohol and drugs intoxication.
The person was warned of criminal liability in case of refusal, but the man nonetheless refused to have his alcohol concentration measured in his breath. Upon conducting an inspection of the vehicle interior, law enforcement found a bag containing a substance of unknown origin with a greenish-brown colour, similar to marijuana. The seized substance was sent for expert examination.
The State Police have initiated criminal proceedings in accordance with the first part of Article 259 and the first part of Article 262.1 of the Criminal Law. In total, five administrative violation proceedings have also been initiated in connection with the incident.
The State Police remind that no person is to be considered guilty until their guilt in committing an offence has been proven in the manner prescribed by law.
