Neurologist accused of sexual assault against nine patients in Riga
The State Police has completed an investigation into a neurologist who, using hypnosis, committed sexual acts against nine women. The case has been referred to the Riga Eastern Prosecutor's Office.

Google News LV — Crime (lv) reports that the State Police this week completed an investigation in criminal proceedings against a neurologist doctor for sexual acts committed against patients. Nine women have been recognised as victims.
Multiple women approached the police with complaints about the doctor's conduct. Their experiences shared similar details: when visiting consultations with the specialist, the doctor used hypnosis methods in his practice and, against the women's will, committed sexual acts to satisfy his sexual desires. The acts were carried out through physical contact, exploiting the patients' trust and state of helplessness.
The criminal case was initiated on 22 January 2025 at the Riga Eastern Division of the Riga region department of the State Police under articles 160, first and second parts, of the Criminal Law. All reports regarding the doctor's conduct were consolidated into a single investigation.
The offences were committed during the period from 2020 to 2024. Extensive investigation conducted in close co-operation with the prosecutor's office, involving multiple volumes and the appointment of expert assessments, made it possible to obtain a sufficient body of evidence, despite the fact that several years had elapsed since the first incidents.
In September 2025 the man was recognised as a suspect. Security measures were imposed on him — a prohibition on approaching certain persons and a prohibition on holding a specific position.
On 25 August 2026 the State Police referred the criminal case to the Riga Eastern Prosecutor's Office, requesting that criminal prosecution be initiated against the suspect.
The police express their gratitude to the Health Inspectorate, representatives of the Baltic investigative journalism centre "Re:Baltica" and journalists from Latvia Television for providing information during the investigation.
The State Police reminds that no one is considered guilty until this is proven in the manner established by law.
