Google News LV — Crime (lv) reports that on 3 September at approximately 19:30, the State Police received a signal from a vehicle's eCall system about a possible traffic accident in Liepāja on Zirņu Street beyond the intersection with Jaunā Street.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a Škoda vehicle — property of a third party had not been damaged. A man was found next to the vehicle, who initially refused to cooperate with law enforcement.
A check revealed that the man is a State Police officer who was off-duty at that time. An alcohol test showed 2.05 per mille. Investigation measures to secure evidence were carried out at the scene immediately.
The detainee was taken to a temporary detention facility. A criminal case has been initiated for driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The case materials will be handed over to the Internal Security Bureau.
The detainee works in a structural unit of the State Police General Order Police Department, which covers Liepāja and Dienvidkurzeme Municipality. The Škoda in question is his private vehicle.
In view of violations recently identified in this particular structural unit, a service inspection has been initiated. The head of the structural unit has been transferred to a lower position.
State Police leadership has stated: there is no place for lawbreakers in the police, and such conduct has never been and will never be tolerated.
