A lawyer practising in Casablanca has revealed new details about the murder of a young driver working for the InDrive ride-hailing service, discovered dead in the Dar Bouazza area, near Morocco's economic capital.
Nine individuals are under investigation, two of whom are female. According to the lawyer's explanation to the media, the alleged mastermind of the crime is a man serving in the military. Alongside him, his partner, who works as a healthcare assistant in a clinic in Kénitra, is also under suspicion. The couple is suspected of having kidnapped and murdered the young man.
Once the crime was committed, the alleged perpetrators are believed to have attempted to burn the body in order to eliminate any physical evidence that could link them to the crime.
The lawyer also indicated that the main suspect allegedly mobilised his circle after the incident, which gradually drew other individuals into the affair.
The investigating judge of the Casablanca Court of Appeal ordered the detention of six of the nine suspects at Aïn Sebaâ prison. Among those imprisoned is one female defendant. The three other individuals under prosecution were released on provisional liberty.
The affair shocked public opinion following the discovery of the young self-employed worker's body. He had left his home to run errands in his vehicle, but never returned. It was the Royal Gendarmerie that ultimately informed his relatives of the tragedy.
