Moroccan judicial authorities released Ali Lmrabet on Wednesday, after the 66-year-old professional had spent three days in detention. He had been apprehended upon landing Sunday evening in the metropolis in the north of the country.
The prosecution, cited by the official MAP agency, indicated that the procedure remains active. Texts published on digital platforms are under examination. The magistrates believe that certain passages contain attacks against individuals and organisations, as well as offences towards legal bodies. All matters remain under investigation.
Contacted by media defence organisation RSF, the person concerned reaffirmed his strictly professional commitment. According to his account, exercising a profession in information with full independence creates tensions, but he intends to continue with this approach.
His spouse, Laura Feliu, reported that he is able to board a plane again. Nevertheless, he is considering extending his stay for a few days on his native soil for administrative matters. Based in Catalonia where he works, he had not returned to the kingdom since the death of his father, which occurred several years ago.
This media professional is known for his positions against those in power. His career is marked by previous convictions. Between 2005 and 2015, a judicial decision forbade him any editorial activity on the territory, following remarks made regarding the populations of the Tindouf camps. Earlier, in 2003, he had been given a sentence of three years' imprisonment for the offence of insulting the sovereign, before royal clemency brought his incarceration to an end in early the following year.
