Moroccan security forces have arrested eleven people in Tangier and Marrakech, wanted by several European countries for offences related to drug trafficking and money laundering.

The kingdom's security authorities conducted a series of arrests in Tangier and Marrakech on Monday. In total, eleven men have been held in custody, suspected of cross-border criminal activities. The operation was carried out jointly by the DGSN and the DGST.
Six of those arrested hold dual French and Moroccan nationality. The French judiciary is pursuing them for their alleged role in drug distribution networks, laundering of illicit funds, as well as fraud and financial misconduct. Three other suspects, holding Belgian-Moroccan dual nationality, are the subject of judicial proceedings in Belgium for their involvement in international trafficking in illicit substances.
Among those captured is also a man holding Dutch and Moroccan passports, who was subject to a red notice issued by Interpol in connection with drug trafficking and money laundering operations. A French citizen was also arrested; he was the subject of a warrant issued by the National Judicial Police Brigade for similar facts concerning money laundering.
Ten of the eleven detainees were listed on the red notices of the international police organisation, at the request of the magistracies of France, Belgium and the Netherlands. During searches, investigators seized several high-end vehicles and motorcycles, bundles of banknotes in dirhams and foreign currencies, bank payment means, packages of cocaine and travel documents.
The suspects have been provisionally remanded in custody. They will be questioned regarding the offences imputed to them in the context of official requests coming from abroad. Moroccan authorities have emphasised that detainees of Moroccan nationality will be tried according to the rules in force in the country.
