Marrakech: man arrested for theft of official vehicle
On Friday evening in the ochre city, security forces apprehended a man who had taken possession of a service vehicle. The pursuit launched by officers ended in a road collision, bringing the perpetrator to a halt.
The offence occurred near the railway station, the scene of a brawl between several people that created a disturbance. Taking advantage of the chaos, the suspect got into the official vehicle left nearby and drove off at speed towards an unknown destination, according to investigators in their preliminary report.
Once the alert was raised, patrols traced the route of the stolen vehicle through Marrakech's streets. The manhunt ended violently when the fugitive collided with another road user, forcing him to stop.
Placed in provisional detention, the suspect is now in the hands of the judicial authorities. The competent public prosecutor's office is supervising an investigation procedure aimed at shedding full light on this theft and the circumstances preceding the brawl.
