Audio reveals abuse of elderly in illegal care homes in Lousada
The investigative programme "Doa a Quem Doer", from CMTV, has obtained audio recordings that document situations of violence against residents of elderly care institutions that operate without licensing in the municipality of Lousada, Porto district.
The recordings capture threats directed at residents, including expressions such as "I will tie your hands". The images and sounds collected by the programme evidence practices of physical and psychological violence exercised against the elderly housed in these facilities.
Residents of the said institutions reported having been subjected to humiliation and abuse. The complaints point to irregular operating conditions and the absence of adequate inspection of these establishments.
The case raises concerns regarding the protection of vulnerable people in care homes that operate outside the legal framework, without the safety and welfare guarantees required by Portuguese legislation.
