Woman arrested attempting to smuggle synthetic drug 'K4' to family member in Greater Lisbon prison
A woman was caught by prison officers attempting to deliver 'K4' drug during a visit to a prison facility in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

A woman was arrested on Tuesday at 10.30 a.m. at a jail in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area after being caught attempting to hand over synthetic drug 'K4' to a family member held there, according to reports by Correio da Manhã.
'K4' is a smokeable synthetic substance, generally impregnated on sheets of paper, which has been used to introduce drugs into prisons without raising immediate suspicion.
The arrest occurred at the time visits were being admitted. A female officer on duty, as she was preparing to carry out a security search of the woman, noticed a bulge in the suspect's stomach area. She ordered her to remove what she was carrying. The woman removed a set of rolling papers and subsequently handed over a sheet of 'K4' wrapped in cling film.
Frederico Morais, president of the National Prison Guard Trade Union, confirmed the arrest to Correio da Manhã.
After the intervention of prison officers, the suspect was handed over, under arrest, to the PSP, which was called to the scene. She is charged with drug trafficking and will be brought before a judge for initial questioning.
The inmate who was to be the recipient of the substance will be subject to an internal disciplinary process.
