A 35-year-old man was arrested in the Grândola service area whilst transporting a substantial quantity of hashish from Spain with a final destination of Coimbra.

The Judicial Police, through its Centre Directorate, identified and arrested a 35-year-old man on Saturday morning at the Grândola service area. The suspect was transporting a large quantity of narcotics from Spain, with a final destination of the city of Coimbra.
The arrest resulted from intensive information-gathering work carried out by the PJ. The steps taken that morning led investigators to believe that the individual was transporting drugs in the vehicle, a suspicion that was confirmed during the stop.
Following a search of the car, two secret compartments were discovered, created specifically to conceal illicit substances. A significant quantity of hashish was stored in these hiding places.
Subsequently, and with the detainee in custody, the authorities carried out a search in a garage in Figueira da Foz, where the man was storing more narcotics of the same nature.
In total, the seizures amounted to approximately 100 kilograms of hashish. A precision scale, 1,300 euros in cash, two vehicles and various items of evidence were also confiscated, including computing and telecommunications equipment.
The detainee was charged with the crime of drug trafficking and will be presented to the competent judicial authority for initial interrogation and application of preventive measures.
The investigation continues under the responsibility of the Judicial Police, as part of an inquiry directed by the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action in Coimbra.
