SRI Employee and IGSU Serviceman Detained in Drug Trafficking Network in Clubs
An SRI employee and an IGSU serviceman were caught as members of a drug trafficking network. 22 people were detained and remanded in custody.
State Institution Employees Involved in Drug Trafficking in Clubs and Festivals
According to cotidianul.ro, an employee of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) and a serviceman of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) were identified as members of a drug trafficking network active in the capital. The group sold eight types of banned substances, from veterinary anaesthetic to cocaine.
TVR Info specifies that the two state institution employees had strict rules within the network, selling exclusively ecstasy in pre-established locations. Drugs were distributed in clubs, in the toilets of establishments and at tables, and during festivals the traffickers operated divided by sectors.
Investigators monitored both suspects, and undercover police officers purchased drugs from them. Following house searches, ecstasy pills were discovered in the SRI employee's home.
"An employee from the area of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and one from the area of intelligence services commit such acts wholesale, in a criminal clique. We are talking about two servicemen who, perhaps tempted by money, engage in such a group. In the end, it is good that the Police and prosecutors did their duty and proved their criminal activity," declared Mihai Zlat, vice-president of the National Union of Police Officers and Contract Personnel (SNPPC).
In total, 22 people were detained and subsequently remanded in custody as part of this operation. The IGSU serviceman was placed under judicial supervision.

Separately, prosecutors from DIICOT in Constanța detained a 48-year-old man after he brought into the country over 100 grams of cannabis resin through Mihail Kogălniceanu International Airport. The substance originated from the United States of America.
"The defendant was detected by border police after unlawfully introducing, onto the country's territory, from the United States of America, a quantity of over 100 grams of cannabis resin, a risky drug," according to the DIICOT Press Office.
