DIICOT stops "spiritual ceremony" involving drugs in Hunedoara: two foreigners arrested
DIICOT prosecutors detained three people in Hunedoara following the discovery of a ceremony involving ayahuasca and mescaline, with fees of up to 650 euros. A Peruvian and a Danish national were remanded in custody.
Ceremony with shamans and high-risk drugs halted by DIICOT at a guesthouse in Boșorod
DIICOT prosecutors detained three people — a Romanian woman, a Peruvian citizen and a Danish citizen — after intercepting the organisation of a "spiritual ceremony" at a guesthouse in the locality of Boșorod, Hunedoara county, according to Digi24. The participation fee for the event reached up to 650 euros per person.
The event, named "Amazon Weekend", was promoted online as an experience dedicated to "people interested in Peruvian Amazon rituals" and was intended to include the consumption of banned substances: Ayahuasca, which contains DMT, and "San Pedro", the popular name for the Echinopsis pachanoi cactus, containing mescaline — both classified as high-risk drugs.
The Romanian woman detained was the organiser of the event. According to DIICOT, recruitment of participants was carried out through interviews conducted over the summer, exclusively on the basis of recommendation, and the price charged, ranging between 590 and 650 euros, included accommodation and meals.
"At the spiritual ceremony named 'Amazon Weekend', shamans and other people announced their presence who, according to the online promotion of the event, wished to reconnect with themselves", DIICOT specified in a statement.
The Peruvian citizen and the Danish citizen were remanded in custody, prosecutors determining that they "had introduced high-risk drugs into Romania". The two were to distribute the banned substances as part of the rituals, in their capacity as shamans.
At the moment of investigators' intervention, "teas" containing drugs were already being prepared in the guesthouse kitchen. The room intended for rituals was equipped with 11 mattresses, vomit containers, candles and various decorative items.
Following the searches, police and prosecutors seized over 6.6 litres of mescaline, several containers with hallucinogenic mushrooms, vessels and envelopes containing liquid and plant substances, as well as scales and snorting and inhalation devices.
