Oana Roman, victim of an online harassment campaign: "They sent me messages wishing me dead"
According to Google News RO — Crime (ro), celebrity Oana Roman went to the police during the summer after being threatened with death and after unknown individuals filmed images of her home, subsequently publishing the footage online.
Roman spoke about the incident on the "Xtra Night Show" programme, describing a sustained harassment campaign that stemmed from a social media post that was interpreted selectively by part of the public.
"I faced during this summer an absolutely horrifying campaign of manipulation and propaganda against me, which affected me very much," declared the daughter of former prime minister Petre Roman. "It started from a post that I made and that people didn't manage to read in its entirety."
According to her statements, the campaign spread rapidly across WhatsApp groups and involved both fake accounts and real people. "Thousands of comments appeared that weren't real," she said, adding that threats escalated to direct messages with extremely serious content.
"They sent me messages threatening death, insults, curses. They filmed in front of my house, they said: This is where Oana Roman lives," the celebrity recounted. Among the messages received were death wishes directed at both her and her child.
Roman confirmed that she had filed multiple complaints with the police, however, at the time of her appearance on the programme, none of them had been resolved. "I went to the police, I filed some complaints and they haven't been finalised even to this day. Two months have already passed," she specified.
The celebrity mentioned that the situation had also affected some professional collaborations, which she handled by explaining that the wave of harassment was temporary. "Things have calmed down in the meantime, however I had a very difficult summer, from an emotional point of view. I was frightened," Roman concluded.
