Marius Sponoche, former head of Cernavodă Town Hospital, is accused by the National Anticorruption Directorate of demanding and accepting money for an operating theatre renovation contract. The court is to rule on protective measures.
Former Cernavodă Hospital Manager Tried for Accepting €30,000 Bribe
Constanța Court is to decide on protective measures ordered in the case of Marius Sponoche, former manager of Cernavodă Town Hospital. He is being tried for corruption offences related to a contract for renovation of the medical facility.
According to the National Anticorruption Directorate indictment, in July 2024, Sponoche, in his capacity as head of the hospital, signed a contract for modernisation works on the operating theatre block and intensive care unit with a commercial company. The value of the agreement came to approximately 1.1 million lei.
Prosecutors claim that in January 2025, the manager demanded €30,000 from the company representative's representative, via the hospital's administrative services chief. The sum was allegedly demanded in order for him to fulfil his duties related to budgeting, conclusion and implementation of the contract.
On 11 February 2025, Sponoche allegedly received, through an intermediary, €15,000, representing part of the money requested. The funds came from the businessman executing the renovation works.
According to information published by Ziarul Amprenta, investigators ordered protective measures on real property belonging to the defendant, with a view to extended confiscation.
The case was sent for trial to Constanța Court with a proposal to maintain the preventive and protective measures. Two other defendants have been separated in the case: the commercial company representative and the civil servant who allegedly intermediated the transfer of money.
The court's decision may be challenged by the parties involved.
