Corruption case at Cernavodă Hospital: court decides on protective measures
Constanța Court is to rule today on the protective measures imposed in the case of the former manager of Cernavodă Municipal Hospital, Marius Ion Sponoche, according to ziarulamprenta.ro. Any decision adopted may be contested.
According to the DNA indictment, on 29 July 2024, Cernavodă Municipal Hospital, represented by Sponoche Marius Ion in his capacity as manager, concluded a contract for the renovation and modernisation of the operating block and intensive care unit with a commercial company administered by the accused M.E., valued at 1,099,026 lei.
During January 2025, Sponoche allegedly demanded the sum of 30,000 euros from M.E., through Laura Iuliana Cocor, head of administrative services at the same hospital, in connection with the fulfilment of his duties regarding budgeting, conclusion and execution of the aforementioned contract. On 11 February 2025, Sponoche allegedly received 15,000 euros in cash, a sum originating from M.E. and transmitted through Cocor Laura Iuliana.
In order to pursue extended confiscation, prosecutors have imposed protective measures on property belonging to Sponoche. The case has been sent for trial at Constanța Court with a proposal to maintain the preventive and protective measures.
In the case of the accused M.E. and Cocor Laura Iuliana, the case has been severed. Separately, Laura Cocor has brought proceedings against businessman Memedula Erdivan, the person who carried out the renovation work on the operating block of the hospital.
The DNA clarifies that the sending of the case for trial represents the conclusion of the criminal investigation and cannot undermine the principle of the presumption of innocence, in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure.
