Google News RO — Crime (ro) reports that a 27-year-old man was detained for 24 hours by police in Lugoj, Timiș county, after refusing to stop at the signal of officers and causing a traffic accident during a pursuit on 29 August 2026.

According to investigators, the driver did not hold a driving licence for any category of vehicle and registered a blood alcohol level of 1.02 mg/l in expired air. The car he was driving belonged to another person.

During the pursuit, the man lost control of the vehicle and entered the wrong lane, colliding head-on with a car that was travelling lawfully. At the wheel of that car was a 20-year-old young woman; in the passenger seat was a 16-year-old minor, according to Radio România Reșița.

As a result of the impact, the lawfully travelling car was thrown into a restaurant terrace in the area.

Four people required medical care and were taken to hospital: the pursued driver, the two young women from the struck vehicle, and a 44-year-old man who was on the terrace affected by the accident.

The driver is being investigated for multiple traffic offences, including driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a licence.
