Nocturnal pursuit in Lugoj: vehicle hurled onto restaurant terrace, four injured
Jurnalul.ro reports that in the early hours of Saturday, around 00.10, police in Lugoj attempted to stop a vehicle travelling on Bucegi Street. The driver ignored the regulatory signal and accelerated, triggering a pursuit.
On Timișorii Street, the 27-year-old man lost control of the steering wheel and collided head-on with a vehicle travelling legally from the opposite direction. The struck car, driven by a 20-year-old woman, was propelled off the roadway and landed on the tables of a terrace.
Four people required medical care and were transported to hospital: the fleeing 27-year-old driver, the 20-year-old woman, a 16-year-old passenger who was in her car, and a 44-year-old man who was on the terrace at the moment of impact.
A breathalyser test indicated a concentration of 1.02 mg/l pure alcohol in expired air. At the hospital, biological samples were taken to establish the exact blood alcohol level. Checks in the database confirmed that the man does not hold a driving licence for any category of vehicle. The car he was driving belonged to another person.
Police opened a criminal file for driving without a licence, driving under the influence of alcohol, theft for purposes of use, and negligent bodily harm. The man was detained for 24 hours and taken to the Timiș Detention and Preventive Arrest Centre.
