Police dog catches motorbike thief in Wilford within minutes of 999 call

A police dog helped apprehend two suspects after a motorbike was stolen from outside a Wilford Lane gym. Both men were in handcuffs within 24 minutes of the report.

According to westbridgfordwire.com, a motorbike stolen from outside a gym on Wilford Lane, Nottingham, was recovered and two suspects arrested in under half an hour on Thursday 19 February.

The theft was reported to police at around 7.55pm. Response officers were dispatched to search the area, and by 8.19pm — with the assistance of PD Wolf and his handler from the dog unit — two men had been placed in handcuffs.

The pair were spotted by officers in The Downs, Wilford. When one of the individuals attempted to flee, PD Wolf was deployed and detained him until his handler arrived. A suspected stolen motorbike was also recovered nearby.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

Chief Inspector Andy Reynolds, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was a great example of our Response and Operational Support teams working together for a positive result. In this case, the officers managed to recover a suspected stolen motorbike and track down a pair of suspected thieves too."

Reynolds added: "When one of the individuals then tried to make a run for it, PD Wolf did a great job in ensuring he didn't manage to get away. These two arrests really showcased the effectiveness of our different policing teams working in tandem."
