A man who carjacked a woman outside Palmetto Hospital in Hialeah was arrested Thursday after a high-speed chase through northwest Miami-Dade ended in a crash.

A 35-year-old man carjacked a woman outside Palmetto Hospital in Hialeah on Thursday before being taken into custody following a police pursuit that ended in a crash, nbcmiami.com reports.

Eugene Jordan Brown had been brought to the hospital on West 68th Street by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office under a Baker Act order but fled shortly after arriving, according to Hialeah Police officials. While in the hospital's parking lot, Brown approached a woman who was stepping out of her vehicle and forced himself inside, police said. As he drove off in her car, he struck another vehicle.

Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed a black Nissan Sentra speeding through roadways across northwest Miami-Dade Thursday afternoon. Officers, Miami-Dade Sheriff's deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers joined the pursuit, with multiple PIT maneuver attempts causing damage to the vehicle without bringing it to a stop.

"Somebody could've really been hurt — he was going on the opposite side of traffic too, head on," witness Nicole Rodriguez said.

The chase continued until an FHP trooper managed to send the Sentra spinning into a crash at Northwest 17th Avenue and 79th Street, where Brown was taken into custody.

"It's crazy because I seen a lot and they were like, they had been pursuing him, they had hit his car too and he kept going," witness Ashley Bueso said.

Paramedics were seen at the hospital parking lot attending to the carjacking victim, while authorities kept a section of the lot cordoned off. Hialeah Police confirmed they were not involved in the chase itself but are investigating the carjacking and hit-and-run, both of which occurred within their jurisdiction.
