The dismembered remains of a woman were found at the Park Valley Apartments in Smyrna, Georgia on Wednesday night, according to abcnews.com. Police described the case as a "shocking" and "particularly gruesome crime."
An 18-year-old man identified as Kingston Bradley, who lives at the complex, was taken into custody and named a person of interest for murder, Smyrna police said Friday. Bradley has so far been charged with concealing the death of another and is being held on no bond, according to Cobb County jail records.
Lt. Meredith Holt, public information officer for the Smyrna Police Department, said the murder investigation remains "active and ongoing."
"We are continuing to do interviews to see if there are any other possible suspects that could be out there," Holt told reporters at a Friday press briefing.
Bradley has not provided any statements to investigators, Holt said. Police are examining whether there are connections between the victim and the person of interest. "We have issued multiple search warrants and continuing to do a lot of interviews," she said. "We are looking at multiple different types of evidence, at multiple different types of possible scenes, and through that we are following any lead that we have."
Holt confirmed that investigators are still searching for additional parts of the victim's body.
"This is a shocking crime. I don't know how else to describe it," Holt said. "I've been in law enforcement for 25 years, and I have been a part of multiple homicide cases, and I worked crimes against children for 16 years, and this is a particularly gruesome crime."
Authorities have not yet officially identified the victim. "The medical examiner is not willing to make a confirmation at this point in time," Holt said. DNA testing is underway to provide absolute confirmation, she added. Family members who believe they are related to the victim have come forward.
Those family members had previously reported a missing person whose phone and vehicle were located at the Park Valley Apartments, Holt said. An officer responded to the complex Wednesday evening, knocked on several doors, conducted interviews, and left after approximately 30 minutes. The officer reportedly directed the family to file a missing person report with Atlanta police, as that was the last known location of the woman.
About 30 minutes after the officer departed, officers were called back to the apartment complex in connection with the homicide investigation, police said.
