Hit-and-run driver Angel Morales-Ortiz arrested after Seaford crashes injure motorist

Delaware State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Angel Morales-Ortiz, 36, after a series of hit-and-run crashes in Seaford left a 20-year-old with serious injuries.

Jeep driver faces vehicular assault charges after series of Seaford hit-and-run collisions

Delaware State Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Angel Morales-Ortiz, 36, of Georgetown, Delaware, on charges of vehicular assault, driving under the influence, and related offences, Kaieteur News reports. The warrant follows a series of hit-and-run crashes on the evening of Friday, June 19, 2026, in Seaford that left one driver seriously injured.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., troopers responded to Old Furnace Road near Middleford Road after a report of a hit-and-run collision. A Jeep Comanche, travelling northbound on Middleford Road, turned right onto eastbound Old Furnace Road and crossed into the westbound lane, sideswiping a Ford F-150 that was stopped at the intersection. The Jeep did not stop.

The vehicle then continued eastbound at high speed, committing multiple traffic violations. At the intersection of Coverdale Road, the Jeep reversed into the front of a Toyota Camry before driving around stopped traffic and pressing on eastbound.

Near Cokesbury Road, the Jeep crossed once more into the oncoming lane and struck a Ford Fusion head-on. The driver of the Ford Fusion, a 20-year-old man from Seaford, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Toyota Camry, a 25-year-old woman from Bishopville, Maryland, and her passengers were uninjured. The driver of the Ford F-150, a 33-year-old man from Milford, and his passenger also escaped without injury.

Responding troopers located Morales-Ortiz and observed multiple signs of impairment. He was airlifted by the Delaware State Police Aviation Section to an area hospital, also with serious injuries.

A search of the Jeep produced multiple open containers of alcohol. A records check further revealed that Morales-Ortiz was driving on a suspended licence. Troopers subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant for a blood sample at the hospital.

Morales-Ortiz is expected to be formally charged upon his release from hospital.
