Two Arrested Over Fraternity Hazing at Madison's Alpha Epsilon Pi

Hazing arrests at unrecognised Madison fraternity after anonymous tip

Madison Police Department officers arrested two men in connection with a fraternity hazing investigation, wmtv15news.com reports. The arrests followed an anonymous tip that led officers to the 100 block of Langdon Street at around 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday.

When officers reached the basement of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity house, they found 30 partially clothed men covered in food, condiments and other liquids. Most of those present were 18 years old. Some had visible injuries.

The thermostat in the room was set to 81 degrees, leaving the space hot and humid. Police deemed the event illegal, escorted everyone outside and checked pledges for signs of incapacitation or injury.

Alpha Epsilon Pi is unrecognised and unaccredited, and was terminated by the University of Wisconsin-Madison more than a decade ago, police said.

Brayden Klein and Samuel Vane, both 20, were arrested on charges of hazing and disorderly conduct and booked into Dane County Jail. MPD Captain Kipp Hartman noted that pledges and others inside the house provided limited cooperation with officers.

The fraternity's president and vice president spoke to responding officers. Police said they will also contact the fraternity's national chapter.
