The Travis County Sheriff's Office is investigating what it believes to be a murder-suicide at an apartment complex in the Wells Branch area, fox7austin.com reports. Two women were found dead with gunshot wounds inside a unit in the 3400 block of Shoreline Drive, between Burnet Road and Bratton Lane.
Deputies were called to the scene at approximately 8:45 a.m. on September 23 after an apartment manager, conducting routine duties, noticed the front door of a unit was ajar. He attempted to announce himself and speak to the residents but received no response. Upon opening the door, he found a body inside and called 911.
When deputies arrived, they discovered a second woman also dead inside the apartment. Both victims had sustained gunshot wounds.
TCSO public information officer Kristin Dark, who spoke to media near the scene, said the investigation so far indicates a murder-suicide. "We do not have any reason to believe there is a third party involved at this point," Dark said.
No reports of a disturbance, unusual noises or gunshots were received prior to the manager's 911 call. Dark noted that, based on the condition of the bodies, the shooting likely did not occur during daylight hours.
Dark said she did not have information on the ages of the victims or how the two women were connected to one another. It was also unclear how long they had lived in the complex, or whether they were official residents.
A search warrant has been signed and issued, and detectives are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting. Investigators are also interviewing residents of nearby units to gather additional information.
TCSO expected to remain on scene for several hours to complete their investigation.
