Abu Dhabi teacher sentenced to two years for classroom assault on four pupils
A male teacher has been handed a two-year prison sentence after assaulting four pupils inside a private school classroom in Abu Dhabi, thenationalnews.com reports, citing a statement from the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) issued on Tuesday.
The four pupils sustained injuries that left them unable to attend school. The teacher admitted the charges both during the investigation and before Abu Dhabi Criminal Court.
He told investigators he had assaulted the students "to prevent them from causing chaos and disruption during the lesson, and in an attempt to discipline their behaviour." CCTV footage captured the violence and corroborated his confession, the ADJD said, noting the assault was carried out without justification.
The court found that committing the offence inside a school during lesson hours constituted a breach of public security and order. Protecting public order, the court heard, aims to safeguard the fundamental values of society, ensure the safety of its members and maintain respect for the law.
The defendant's conduct was described as a blatant breach of existing laws and regulations, underlining the need for firm legal enforcement to protect public safety, uphold individual rights and deter violations that harm or undermine the security and stability of individuals.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered that the teacher be deported upon completion of his sentence and bear all legal costs associated with the case.
